Beth was the mother of two children. Beth had been feeling very nervous lately and began to "medicate" herself by having several glasses of wine each evening after she put her children to bed. After just about eleven weeks of this drinking routine, she finally understood the fact that instead of helping her calm down and cope with her difficulties, drinking made her feel less tranquil when she awakened in the morning. This, in turn, made her feel even more stressed all through the day.
After thinking about her predicament for a few weeks, Beth decided to "open up" about her drinking situation with her closest friend. Indeed, about five minutes into their chat, Beth's friend Brooke, told her about a very highly qualified and supportive psychiatrist at the local drug and alcohol abuse treatment clinic. After talking to her friend, Beth immediately got motivated to call the treatment center and make an appointment.
Five days later she finally got to meet the psychiatrist her best friend had talked about. After their brief introduction, Beth explained to the psychiatrist that ever since she and her husband got divorced, she has been having a difficult time financially, psychologically, and spiritually.
As Beth was talking to the psychiatrist, she stressed the point that she truthfully believed that she and Robert dated long enough to know each other well enough before they got married. After the children started to arrive, however, just about everything appeared to deteriorate. What is more, both she and Robert started to drink, and their hazardous drinking adversely affected their finances, their relationship, and their love for one another.
The psychiatrist explained to Beth that the alcohol poisoning symptoms she has been going through are due to her excessive and hazardous drinking. The doctor also told Beth that her alcohol withdrawal symptoms are some of the usual symptoms of alcoholism and that the most effective solution for this is alcohol rehab.
After spending two months in inpatient alcohol rehab, Beth was gradually able to comprehend the fact that the real root of her stress and her depression was the fact that she had not worked through her bitter feelings she has for her ex-husband who divorced her. In short, Beth let these feelings distress her to such an extent that she became an alcoholic.
Armed with these insights and with the medications her doctor prescribed, she eventually stopped drinking, she started to feel much less depressed, and she started making time for social activities with her family and friends. What is more, a few months after receiving rehab from her psychiatrist, began to date once again.
It was obvious that Beth had come a long way. In fact, just around five months after she completed her treatment, Beth had finally laid the harmful feelings of Robert, her former husband, to rest and was beginning to feel more complete and more spiritually "sound" and psychologically "together" than she had ever felt in her life.
