Lenny and Angie have been married for four years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they made up their minds to have a family and so they purposely created a very exciting social life.
The principal issue, it needs to be pointed out, is that almost everything they do with their family and friends includes drinking. As an illustration, all of the family get-togethers, dinner engagements, parties with friends, happy hours, and sporting events they attend are associated with drinking.
If they were occasional drinkers this wouldn't be such a big issue. Since they drink quite irresponsibly, nevertheless, they are starting to become aware of some clearly identifiable alcohol-related problems in their lives.
As an illustration, just three weeks ago Lenny was placed under arrest for his first DUI and has been overlooking responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health issues. In addition, Lenny's last two or three performance appraisals at his place of employment have been less than satisfactory and he has begun to forget what he does or says when he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been having sleep-related problems and his family is starting to grow concerned about his drinking difficulties.
Similar to Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling disheartened about life and to handle these feelings, she has been drinking more than any time in the past ten months. Not only this, but Angie has been getting a lot of painful migraines and going through severe hangovers after drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling notably less energetic when she awakens in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been receiving some unkind criticism from her relatives, friends, family members, and coworkers about her excessive and unhealthy drinking.
One Tuesday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny stumbled upon a remarkable documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real bombshell to Angie and Lenny because many of the alcohol facts that were discussed gave them the impression that they were directly linked to numerous alcohol related drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the television program still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been exhibiting could be a warning that they are alcoholic or perhaps becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the nearby alcohol rehabilitation center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking circumstances.
Strangely enough, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was clear that Lenny and Angie were at least focusing on their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in discovering how they could appreciably decrease or eliminate the drinking-related problems that had begun to emerge.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they made up their minds that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse rehabilitation center located just North of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking issues that had materialized in their lives, they actually had the most refreshing night's sleep they could bring to mind in the last three weeks.
