The value of proper aerobic shoes is often underrated. People discuss doing the exercises correctly, planning out a workout program, eating properly, hydrating properly, and all types of other workout tips, but they seldom get to talk about good gym shoes. But ask any
fitness trainer and they will tell you how important it's. Of course, if you're taking an aerobics class, then foot-wear does not matter. You will do all of your cardio exercise on a padded mat, and wearing shoes will be discouraged, if not out-right banned from the room for the sake of preserving the floor. But for many other aerobic exercises (with swimming and a few other excepted) proper cardio shoes are a must. And as a fitness trainer will tell you, you just cannot protect your feet with-out them.
The type of cardiovascular shoes depends on what you're doing for your workout. If you're a serious runner, you need to get sneakers. These are lighter than other versions of aerobic shoes, and focus padding for where runners need it. They're no good for playing tennis, for instance, as they provide very little lateral ankle support. For tennis, or most other exercises that involve more than just moving in a straight line, you require a different sort of cardiovascular shoes: cross trainers or sneakers. Essentially, both of these cardio shoes are about the same thing - the modern version of the gym shoe, with a great deal of padding, but still a low top to allow some flexibility and movement at the ankle.
Of course, if you participate in basketball, you need bigger sturdier aerobic shoe to adequately safeguard your ankle. These are called high tops, and they go up completely to the top of the ankle. They're great for this sport, because you're repeatedly jumping high, bursting into abrupt sprints in different directions, and doing numerous other things that can wreak havoc onbe very hard on your ankle. They safeguard you from injuries much better than any other kind of aerobic shoes, and you will see almost all basketball players wearing them. They're not good for the types of sprints that you've in tennis, however, and so are almost never if ever worn by tennis players. Then again, if you're a cross country runner, you need different cardio shoes altogether. They are going to be sort of a combination between sneakers and light hiking boots, with a fairly light build and a good deal of traction on the bottom. If you go for a career in personal training this is just one of the aspects of fitness you have to know all about - but that's another story totally.
