I have always loved models. When I was a child, I collected all manner of them. I had model airplanes, vehicles, boats, trains - you name it I had it. Naturally, diecast models were very cool, but my favorites were the ones that you could assemble. I had a 1 48 scale model flying Fortress that was my pride and joy.
When I went to architectural school, I gave it all up. I figured that I could not make a career in models, and should do something else that I liked. Little did I realize what awaited me. I actually got a job in architectural model making! If you enjoy working with miniatures and have passable knowledge architecture, this is an extraordinary field to get into. One of the interesting things about architectural scale model making is how painstaking it's. Despite all the advances of modern technology, there is still only one way to make an architectural scale-model: by hand. Sure, there are some advantages that we have that previous generations did not. The individual pieces of architectural scale models can be stamped out. I'm grateful that they have not sussed out a way to take the individual craftsmen away from the architecture scale model. This job is a dream come true, and I am glad it cannot be done more effectively by machines. I think it is going to be quite a long time before anybody figures out a different way to do it. If it were a matter of assembly line manufacturing architectural scale miniatures, it would be different. You could create one design and have it stamped out by a machine. But each architectural scale-model is custom ordered, and so each must be custom-made.
