The
Hotpoint electric range is a vintage appliance. Why, my grandmother still has her stove-top from the 1960s in her small lakeside cabin and it's still working wonderfully. But then, General Electric is known for providing some of the most dependable kitchen appliances out there, and their Hot Point series is no exception.
I've come across quite a few bad brands when I was working as a salesperson at a local appliance retailer, and I could always attest to the quality of GE products. There are some other solid brands out there, but GE just makes some classic workhorses. We also had a lot of those fancy European (and particularly Italian) appliances in our store, and they certainly had definite aesthetic advantages - they're pretty little things, really - but we would get them back time and time again with a host of problems.
This was especially a nuisance because the parts were so much more expensive. Although the initial commissions on products like that were higher, and they were nice looking appliances at first glance, I soon learned that it wasn't worthwhile selling them. It not only cost the store money (in which I became a partial investor after a couple of years) caused by the greater number of repairs we were forced to do on the machines, but it also adversely affected my sales in the long run.
People get mad when you sell them stuff that breaks. Even if you were unaware of the quality issues, and willing to fix the problem ASAP, it still was quite a bit of time wasted in someone's day. From all of my experience, I can tell you that GE makes some great appliances, and their electric ranges especially stood out. Not only to do they keep up to pace with all of the new (and now apparently necessary features), but they are a lot less likely to break down.
Fewer and fewer companies make quality goods, and the Hotpoint electric ranges are still the workhorses that they always were. Really, if you're really using your kitchen appliances, there is no reason to just go for something that looks nice. Go for something that incorporates both style and function. And make sure it is a good product. From my experience, you can't go wrong with a GE Hotpoint range.
